Hey, everybody. It’s Kristin Shaffer, your fab lifestyle expert, and you are watching FAB University, where you get everything you need to live a healthy, fit, and fab life right here, right now. If you’ve been following me for any time at all, you know how I emphasize the importance of a healthy diet in order to get into amazing shape. I’ve written tons of articles about it and mentioned it about a billion times in the videos that I’ve done, and despite over communicating this fact that you simply will not achieve that amazing body that you want to achieve without having a consistently clean diet, I still get tons and tons of emails that sound just like this: “Kristin, I exercise regularly and eat really healthy, but I just can’t lose that last 30 pounds that I gained in my last pregnancy. I’m at my wit’s end. I’ve tried everything! Please help.” Actually, it probably sounds more like: “Kristin, I’m at my wit’s end. Please help me.” And when I ask them to describe what healthy eating means to them I usually get a response that sounds something like this: “Well, lean meats, vegetables, nuts. All healthy stuff of course. It’s just not working!” You know, since I’ve been doing this a really, really long time and I’ve helped literally thousands of women achieve their goals, I ignore that part about the exercise because I know better and I hone right in on the diet. So my next emails sounds like this: “Now I want you to tell me everything you’re eating, including treats, sauces, creamers, alcohol, the occasional cheap meal, vending machines, snacks at work, dinners out at restaurants, protein bars, protein shakes, fruits, nibbles, and everything else you forgot about.” I also typically ask something like this: “Also please tell me if this applies to you. You oftentimes go on a ‘diet’ of healthy eating for a few days and then give up because you’re not seeing the quick results that you’re expecting, if you struggle with binging behaviors, bulimia, anorexia, or any other pretty serious eating disorders.” Now, why do I ask all this? Because 99.99 percent of the time those are the issues. We either, one, think we’re eating healthy and we’re not, or more likely, two, we’re actually lying to ourselves. Most individuals come back and they reveal that their healthy eating really isn’t exactly healthy, especially when you add in all those sugars, and sauces, and alcohol drinks, and everything else that we put in there that we conveniently forget to reveal. We don’t do what we’re supposed to do. We don’t eat clean. We’re inconsistent, we binge, we do all these things to sabotage ourselves and then we lie to ourselves that we really tried hard and we did everything we needed to do, but we didn’t get the result. That’s a lie and most of us do it. Heck, I did it a long time ago before I figured this all out. This is 99.99 percent of the people that write in to me, no joke. We tell ourselves lies. We know we’re not putting the effort in. We know we’re not doing what we’re supposed to do, but we lie to ourselves and tell ourselves that we did. That brings up the larger question of why do we lie to ourselves about this? Why do we continue these patterns, trying things, not putting in the effort, not being consistent, and then telling ourselves a lie that we did and we didn’t get the results that we wanted to achieve? So I asked that very question to Dr. Todd Bennet, clinical psychologist, author, speaker, and expert in achieving our full potential. I gave him an example of a woman who, say, eats a piece of chocolate cake with dinner knowing full well that she’s not supposed to do that, that she’s not
