So here’s a trick to get in some of that moderate intensity exercise during the normal course of your day. Make sure to walk! Whenever you can, do a little extra walking, if it’s at the mall, at work, wherever it is, make sure to walk.
The Amercian college of sports medicine recommends 150 minutes of exercise per week, but it doesn’t have to be in long work out sessions. It can accumulate in little chunks as well.
So even if you spend 5-10 minutes after lunch walking briskly, that adds to your total, and will help you also burn calories and lose fat. Walking can wake you up too, so if you’re prone to feeling tired at some point in the day, take a quick walk and you’ll notice you feel less sleepy.
So here’s some things to keep in mind when walking:
Keep at a brisk but comfortable pace — it’s easy to slow down when walking, but then you lose out on a lot of benefits.
Make sure to progress over time, don’t go out the first day and try to walk a marathon!
